The Tezos NFT Experience

How minting and collecting NFTs on Tezos is a breeze and why you should get started on Tezos.

This past year brought NFTs to the mainstream audience, introducing another mass wave of people across the globe to crypto.

If you happen to frequent Tezos Twitter, you’d likely stumble across a new NFT about every minute. Compound that with popular wallets such as Kukai where users have the ability to create a wallet via Direct Auth on their favorite social platform; on-boarding has never been easier.

It’s no secret we’re in a necessary cooldown period now, however. Despite that and macro events unfolding before us today, the NFT space has never been more lively — especially on Tezos.

Why Tezos?

Tezos has quickly became one of the most popular networks for NFTs. With that popularity, a home has been made for a wide array of collectors, artists, enthusiasts and the likes.

We saw this encouraged organically through the advent of a new marketplace in the early days, H=N (hic et nunc). Since that point in time, H=N has evolved through the community into Teia and other community-ran mirrors.

The importance of that early marketplace should not be undertaken. What was brought about was a clear indication and desire for this group of like minded artists/collectors/enthusiasts and the likes to congregate.

Congregate and make a new home they did, as Tezos is now routinely referred to as the “art chain”.

We’ve also witnessed deals with the likes of Red Bull Racing, N.Y. Mets, McLaren Racing, Ubisoft, and much more. So, if global brands getting behind something is your forte, then there’s plenty to go around.

Don’t just take all of this from us, though. Take it directly from popular artists on Tezos like Laurence Fuller.

In terms of NFTs, what I think has been really fascinating to see is that Tezos is emerging as people have called “the art chain”. I feel that I’m at least partly responsible for that and for some of the talent that’s been attracted. It’s been really quite easy to bring in really great artists because of the people we have minting today on Tezos. Obviously artists want to be apart of a group that they feel like others can look up to in that group.

Or other artists like Jon Burgerman.

I feel less pressure and more at ease to experiment and play with stuff on Tezos and H=N. I think the big thing is that I certainly feel less guilt with XTZ, with regards to the carbon footprint. The miniscule gas fees also helps enable me to try something new out and not worry or care if it sells or how people will respond.

Not having a huge financial or environmental cost is quite liberating and I think because of these things it’s brought together a lot of like-minded people. It’s created a bit of an atmosphere where everyone is sharing the same mindset with it being playful and experimental. It’s been a joy seeing so many creatives just being themselves and, well, creative!

I think we can get the idea.

That said, Tezos does offer some unique benefits for minting and collecting NFTs.

  • Economically feasible
  • Energy efficient
  • Sustainability

These three main benefits in conjunction make up a pretty admirable force.

Not only is Tezos designed to evolve over time through porting the latest technology to the core protocol — it’s also rooted in sensible economics and environmentally conscious.

As one of the most fluid and adaptable blockchains in the crypto space, it does bode a question. Why not Tezos?

How to get Started

Getting started with minting and collecting NFTs on Tezos is a breeze. After heading over to your cryptocurrency exchange of choice and acquiring some tez, you’ll need to setup a wallet.

Below is a list of popular web wallets with beacon support.

If you use Kukai, there’s a feature native to the wallet which allows one to seamlessly create a new wallet via their favorite social platform or any email address. This feature is called DirectAuth and all it takes is knowing your social media or email credentials!

After your wallet has been made and funded with tez, it’s now time to start buying NFTs. There’s a heap of various Tezos-based marketplaces to choose from for all types of collectors.

akaSwap

https://akaswap.com

akaSwap is an Asian-focused open NFT marketplace on Tezos. Featuring clubs, Gachas and more; akaSwap offers a unique metaverse experience. With a goal of providing a home for artists and collectors, the marketplace also has its own DAO token — akaDAO.

Versum

https://versum.xyz

Versum is a relatively new NFT marketplace on Tezos. Mirroring the same early approach of Hic Et Nunc (H=N), Versum focuses heavily on the art, UI, and scalability. In other words, it’s known that you’re using a marketplace but at the same time you don’t really see it.

Teia

https://teia.art

Teia can best be thought of as a global, artist-run space — providing room for experimentation with an emphasis on the arts. Remaining true to the early nature of H=N, Teia is a community-ran NFT marketplace with the same focus on the art itself.

OBJKT.com

https://objkt.com

OBJKT is the largest NFT marketplace on Tezos. Being more general-purpose, OBJKT is the go-to choice for most creators and collectors. This comes with an added benefit of it also being the most liquid marketplace, containing the highest amount of trading volume.

fxhash

https://www.fxhash.xyz

fxhash is one of the most popular Tezos-based NFT marketplaces. Featuring exclusively generative art, it’s rapidly became a home for artists looking to mint and collect generative works.

All it takes is syncing your wallet on the site and you’re ready to dive into generative art, PFP collections, and more! If you’re curious about other marketplaces, be sure to head over to the portal here.

Getting started and joining the Tezos NFT experience has never been easier.
