Recently, we found out that Tezos has become an official sponsor for the Major League Baseball team New York Mets, a deal negotiated by Blokhaus, one of the key teams responsible for Marketing & Communications in the Tezos ecosystem.

In this post, we’re going to shed a bit more light into why this piece of news is a significant step forward towards penetrating mainstream culture for both blockchain as a whole and the Tezos ecosystem.

Tezos + New York Mets

If it was not becoming increasingly familiar by the passing day, the Tezos ecosystem is growing rapidly and maturing into a staple household name amongst sports fans, collectors, artists, and alike.

We’ve seen the aforementioned point in connection with Red Bull Racing Honda and McLaren Racing. What’s even better is that these teams are not only interested in working with Tezos, but they’re going to use the Tezos blockchain for the creation of NFT’s for their respective audiences.

This is clearly beginning to become a more genuine movement towards unlocking the possibilities of blockchain technology and leveraging those applications towards consumers, artists, and fans. In short, one could say Tezos is quite literally beginning to become “cool”.

For the recent New York Mets news, it comes as even more significant for a few reasons. The sponsorship marks the first deal with a blockchain project/decentralized protocol and an MLB team. Additionally, the number of sports fans who will be exposed to Tezos will be enormous as New York is home to one of the largest baseball fanbase.

It would not be too far of a stretch to see this sponsorship affect the Tezos ecosystem in a positive way with such a large exposure to a unique fanbase.

Never Stop Evolving

Equally as important, the New York Mets sponsorship comes timely with the recent activation of protocol Granada — the seventh autonomously activated upgrade that has taken place on Tezos.

With Granada, new features such as decreased block times, gas optimizations, and introduction of liquidity baking as a public good for the Tezos network — have all been activated without a hard fork of the core protocol.

This move only showcases Tezos’ nature to be able to incorporate the latest and greatest technologies of today and port those to come tomorrow in a formal, seamless, and well-defined manner. While other blockchains based on Proof of Work (PoW) typically must undergo a hard fork to incorporate even the modest of changes (including some Proof of Stake protocols), Tezos is built to last and never stops evolving.

This very philosophy, not just in practice, is a cultural movement within the Tezos ecosystem. As we’re beginning to witness exciting new ways for Tezos to become exposed to the mainstream culture through the New York Mets sponsorship and others, those very core principles we hold are beginning to become the same to others as well.

We’re witnessing the culmination of a technology that is here, ready to use today, and amalgamating that with further network effects and letting the whole world know about it.

Looking Forward

As Tezos continues to evolve and grow, so have network effects and the introduction of new partners and sponsorships within the Tezos ecosystem. From F1 racing, baseball, and more — Tezos is increasingly becoming a household name for a wide array of individuals, brands, and more. What will Tezos look like in the future? No one knows for sure, but that's what makes it so exciting; and, whatever Tezos grows into, we know it will continue to hold strong the values of community participation and best-in-class technology that values pragmatism over hype. Now that, is the blockchain of the future — a blockchain truly built to last.
