Since the beginning of the Covid pandemic (Dec. 2019), a majority of any sort of social gathering or meet-up were all postponed indefinitely. Tezos Commons was a big proponent in helping bootstrap these meet-ups and we had no choice but to indefinitely halt these meet-ups until it was safe to do so again. Instead of physical social gatherings, if any social gathering did take place, they were done so virtually, through Zoom, Google video chat, or some other virtual meeting platform. That dragged on for well over 2 whole years. It felt like a scene from Groundhog’s Day as Bill Murray was stuck in a time loop living the same day over and over again.

As time went on, one common theme that permeated these online gatherings was how tiring they had become and that they were just not a good enough substitute to renew the social ties that bound our social circles, especially within the Tezos ecosystem. Because of this, we lost some great community members, but through all hardships, ‘this too shall pass’ and it did.

As Professor Farnsworth would say, “Good news everyone!”.

If you haven’t been living under a rock or following the Tezos Commons on Twitter, you might have missed our soft relaunch of the global Tezos meet-ups. This past May 2022, we successfully launched two meet-ups, one in North America (Vancouver, Canada) and one in Europe (Athens, Greece).

Vancouver, Canada:

On May 26, 2022; ECAD Labs and Tezos Commons hosted their long awaited meetup, where community members and builders came together for some refreshing beverages, tacos, and some witty banter about why Tezos is awesome. Everyone had a great time, and most important of all, they were able to talk about Tezos in a physical setting and share the innate experience of enjoying each other’s company. This was something that no virtual gathering could mimic, and they had such a great time that they will be hosting another one this month! Follow our Twitter or Ecad Lab’s for more information on the next meet-up in Vancouver. Like always, all are welcomed!

Athens, Greece:

Two days after Vancouver held their meet-up, our friends in Athens, Greece held their meetup, which was co-sponsored by Tezos Commons. On May 28, 2022, Tezos Greece successfully launched their meet-up and provided some nifty swag, beverages, and tasty food.

Tezos Greece!

From all accounts, the Tezos Greece meet-up was another homerun. They had a great turn out and their event was initially scheduled for two-hours and instead, it lasted 7 hours! Yes, you read that correctly, 7 hours of Tezos talk! Can you imagine being on a virtual meeting for 7 hours? The physical gathering of renewing the ties that bind us together was in full action. The meet-up was 7 fulfilling hours of socializing and chatting about Tezos and the Tezos ecosystem.

The members of Tezos Greece will be hosting more meet-ups so follow them on Twitter for the most up to date information on when the next meet-up will be.

As we previously noted, this was Tezos Commons’ inaugural soft launch of the global Tezos meet-ups with many more to come. If you’re interested on hosting Tezos based meet-ups in your hometown, feel free to reach out to us. We look forward in seeing more meet-ups and helping bootstrap, onboard, and expand to new locations for our Tezos based communities.
